CHARACTER INFO.
NAME: Adrien Agreste/Chat Noir (I use "Chat" as opposed to "Cat" due to the source canon and character being French, but can adopt "Cat" if it is preferred due to the American release title.)
CANON: Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir
AGE: Fifteen
APPEARANCE: Adrien vs Chat Noir.
CANON POINT: Post-Episode 14, Kung Food.

BACKGROUND: Wikia, which covers both Adrien and Chat in one article.

PERSONALITY:
At a glance, Adrien is a kind, friendly teenager. He smiles often and is loyal to the people he cares for, but is often shy due to a harsh home life resulting in him being reserved and closed off. His mother disappeared somewhere in his childhood, a circumstance that caused his father became distant and uncaring. This truly upsets Adrien, even if he never voices it. He commonly ignores or plays off his own feelings, especially those of any form of negativity, claiming he or the situation is okay even if he or it is not. Similarly, he's startlingly self-sacrificing for a teenage boy, given he habitually prioritizes other people's happiness over his own. The most visible case of this is his modelling for his father's fashion line, given that he doesn't really want to do it but he does it to make his father happy. As a generalization, Adrien is of the belief that he has to be perfect for his father to afford him marginal amounts of shoddy parenting.

This is not to say he's without happiness-- quite the opposite. He is sociable, shown to regularly communicate with both Nino and Alya, rarely seen without Nino when at school. Nino is a bit of a wild character, and is one of the first to be turned evil, the darkness in his heart manipulated by the show's villain. That darkness was caused by Adrien's father, who refused to allow Adrien to celebrate his birthday. Adrien shows a marked level of confusion and uncertainty when faced with the villain Nino becomes' ambition-- which is literally to send adults away, centered around his animosity toward Adrien's father. Plagg, Adrien's kwami partner, encourages him to participate in the party, and Adrien agrees, thinking it is his only chance to do what he wants as Adrien. Earlier in the same episode, Nino confronted Adrien's father and tried to convince him to allow him a party, to which Adrien is both elated that his friend is standing up for him, and dismayed when his father bans Nino from visiting their house. In the end he mollifies his father by telling Nino to not argue with him, which in turn creates the Bubbler from Nino's dislike of Adrien's forced sheltering. Alya, a techno-nerd in Adrien's class who is best friends with Marinette, thinks nothing of Adrien's status and treats him like any other boy in class, which Adrien greatly appreciates.

Slowly as the series progresses, Adrien seems to become more comfortable with himself and others. In the fifth episode, there is a design competition, and upon seeing Marinette Dupain-Cheng (none other than the civillian persona of the Miraculous Ladybug)'s designs animatedly tells Alya he believes she could win the contest, despite knowing that Marinette behaves a little strangely around him. When in the end she does win the contest, he wastes no time in warmly congratulating her, going as far as to introduce her to his father proudly. After the events of the ninth episode, which he spends around Marinette under the guise of Chat Noir and discovering that she doesn't behave skittishly around him, he makes a point of seeking her out to ask her what she thinks of Chat Noir. This is a bit of a funny display of insecurity on his part, given that he previously had no real way of knowing what anyone close to him thought of Chat Noir, and he seems very intent on knowing Marinette's opinion of him. More recently, he and Marinette appear to have grown closer, as he was recruited by Alya to help her communicate with her Chinese uncle since he is fluent in the language when she is not, and he spends much of the episode around her, even after it is discovered that her great uncle speaks French and thus his translation isn't necessary. He also goes out of his way to console her when she becomes upset thinking her uncle dislikes her, both reassuring her with words and subtle contact.

Within all this sweet nature, however, Adrien is still a teenage boy. He gets frustrated very easily, and while he generally handles situations that frustrate him with a reasonable amount of grace, he is still only fifteen. Something that seems to regularly trigger his short temper is his kwami partner, Plagg. The catlike sprite is lazy and unhelpful, often causing Adrien frustration by teasing him and selfishly demanding cheese for providing him with the ability to become Chat Noir. Another point that seems to irritate him as time goes on is Chloe Bourgeois, the Mayor's daughter and a complete spoiled brat. They've known each other since they were children, so he tolerates her, but he has on more than one occasion called her out for being unkind to classmates, and he is especially quick to anger about her behavior when it involves others (and less so when it only involves himself-- he often reluctantly allows her to hang all over him as she wants). When she made a thoughtless racially insensitive comment in regard to Marinette's Chinese great uncle, he was quick to correct her and later sass her about her behavior having gotten her in trouble.

This bleeds into the fact that as the series progresses, Adrien is becoming more and more like the superhero persona he dons at night, Chat Noir. And to truly understand who Adrien Agreste is inside his solitary bubble of fatherly confinement, we must discover this persona. Chat Noir is, simply put, everything Adrien wants to be. Because no one knows who he is, he has all the freedom Adrien wants to do, be, and act however he wants. Through Chat, we see how Adrien would behave if freed from the restrictive life of being his father's poster boy.

And Chat is an audacious fellow. He is loud and dramatic, energetic and excitable, and a complete flirt. He is amateurly suave, he is outspoken, and he never hesitates to do or say something that comes to mind. He also commonly uses silly, often cat-oriented puns when he speaks (puns which Adrien has shown to be very proud of, as he is offended when a copycat makes a crappy pun), a trait that is especially noticeable if he is at all flustered. Everything about Chat exudes faux confidence and a desire to be noticed, from his catsuit to the way he moves, flashily and with a great amount of energy.

Despite a general flirty, somewhat obnoxious attitude, Chat is both respectful and serious when the situation calls for it. He is prone to giving Ladybug nicknames, and whenever she expresses dislike of one he is quick to cease its use. He is also quick to cease his advances when she turns him down, even if he generally starts up again shortly thereafter, happy to let her believe he's joking. He is prone to goofing off, but whenever a situation becomes dire or at all dangerous he shapes up and gets his head in the game. He is also fiercely loyal to Ladybug, having taken two hits for her that were the circumstances different could have been fatal, and trusts her completely, willing to do anything and everything she asks of him. This often results in him being made a distraction and to do her dirty work, which doesn't seem to bother him in the least. Even ignoring his complete adoration of her, this also proves that he is willing to objectively view situations and not take them personally, as he is aware that Ladybug is the one between them who can actually defeat their enemies.

All in all, Adrien clearly has a lot more to him than he openly expresses, most of which becomes obvious when he dons the persona of Chat Noir to fight evil. As he grows used to public schooling and making true friends and realizing that he doesn't have to be perfect to receive positive attention and affection, he seems to be blending his audacity as Chat Noir into his reserved Adrien behavior, leading us to assume that the two will eventually behave the same. Regardless of this, he still holds his secret identity as Chat Noir very dear, and would still protect it even if he were to become more like Chat with his own freedom.

ABILITIES:
Adrien himself is simply a reasonably athletic teenage boy who is good at taking instruction. He claims, when transformed into Chat Noir, that Physics is his favorite subject, and has shown in other classes that he can write a note unrelated to the class at hand and still know exactly what was being said in the class, proving he has exceptional listening skills and a strong ability to multitask. His father makes him take specific classes, two of which have yet to be shown in the series, so it is unknown if they are private tutoring classes or classes in school he takes with other students. The one particular class mentioned we do see him participating in is Fencing, which helps to explain some of Chat Noir's fighting techniques. The other two classes mentioned are Piano and Chinese, and we have recently been shown that he is quite adept at Mandarin Chinese to the degree that a native speaker complimented him on it.

Chat Noir is shown to be visibly muscular and very athletic, all but spring-loaded in the way he leaps around in fights. He is very accomplished in battle as he utilizes both a magical bo staff (it can be split in two, be used as a cellphone, and extend to be as long as he desires, though the farthest we've seen it go was about half the height of the Eiffel Tower) for a ranged weapon and the clawed gloves of his suit for close-range. He has a special ability called Cataclysm, which utilizes a dark power not dissimilar to the main villain of the show in order to turn anything he touches or claws with his right hand brittle and/or into dust. This seems to have no boundary of element, as it has worked on countless surfaces and mediums including marble and metal. To note, after he uses Cataclysm his transformation into Chat Noir will neutralize within five minutes (counted down by the paw print emblem on the ring that transforms him), compromising his secret identity, and he cannot re-transform until he has fed Plagg, the kwami spirit who transforms him. Chat Noir's transformation as a whole is also timed, though the specific amount of time he can remain transformed without use of Cataclysm isn't known (I assume probably around an hour or so, from the episode he is shown to have his timer running out without using Cataclysm).

INVENTORY:
+ Transformation/Kwami ring: plain silver on Adrien, becomes black with a lime green paw print on the face when Chat Noir.
+ Chat Noir: leather bodysuit with a bell at the collar and clawed gloves, a seemingly enchanted bo staff (doubles as communication device, weapon, camera and mobility aid), a black face mask, a pair of black cat ears, and a pair of paw-tread black boots, all gifted by +1 obnoxious Cat Sprite Kwami named Plagg.
+ Black t-shirt with five stripes
+ White overshirt with one pocket (possibly a second inner pocket that Plagg hangs out in)
+ Nondescript belt with silver buckle
+ Pair greenish blue jeans
+ Pair orange high-top sneakers with butterfly design, probably worn over socks. We don't see socks but we'll assume there are socks.
+ Silver messenger-style school bag. Contains a smartphone of indeterminable brand, a school tablet (probably containing notes and classwork), a history book, some writing implements, a notebook, and potentially a random manga volume.

WRITING SAMPLES.
NETWORK SAMPLE:
So if I were in the market for someone who knows how to repair clothing, where would I look? It's a little embarrassing to say that I was a model at home but don't have the first idea about how to make, mend, or otherwise do anything but wear clothes. In general the internet makes it look easy, but I know from experience that just because the internet makes something look easy does not mean it actually is. An unrelated suggestion: don't ever try YouTube gimmicks. The Cinnamon Challenge? Is definitely not something to be taken lightly. This is an entirely unrelated suggestion.

Beyond that, where's the best place around here to get cheese? It's, uh. For a friend.

LOG SAMPLE: To cover Adrien, and then a supplemental sample for Chat Noir, to show the general difference between how he behaves between one and the other.
